While volunteering at the Statesman Journal booth during ShowBiz last week, I had the opportunity to meet the newly crowned Miss Marion-Polk 2013.
Nicole Crane, a junior at Western Oregon University, was making just her second public appearance since taking the throne. She told me her first was at Awesome 3000.
“I just want people to know who we are,” she said of the scholarship pageant program.
ShowBiz also was a great place for Crane to connect with area business professionals because she has to sell $300 in ads to compete in next month’s Miss Oregon Scholarship Pageant.
It should help that she knows the community well. Crane was born and raised in Salem and graduated from Sprague High School in 2010.
Crane is working on a bachelor degree in Community and Public Health at Western Oregon and is excited about the opportunity to educate people about her platform: “Speak Up! Advocating for Breast Cancer.”
The Miss Oregon Scholarship Pageant is June 25-29 in Seaside.
